09/02/2024 - In Gianluca Manzetti’s second feature film, produced by Italy's Camaleo and co-produced by Spain and Poland, six content creators are pitted against one another in increasingly dangerous games

Filming began a few days ago on Dedalus, Gianluca Manzetti’s new film, which is a thriller in the style of Squid Game featuring six content creators who must compete against one another in increasingly dangerous games. The producers on this second film by the director and screenwriter behind Roma Blues (selected out of competition at the 2023 Torino Film Festival) are Camaleo and Eagle Pictures, in co-production with Spain’s Koboflopi and Poland’s Agresywna Banda, and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture – Film and Audiovisual Department and the Lazio Region - Lazio Cinema International.

In this work, Manzetti - who previously worked as assistant director for Stefano Sollima and Ferzan Ozpetek and who headed up the second unit of Dampyr [+see also:

film profile] - adopts thriller tones to focus on Michele, Tiziana, Leo, Antonella, Filippo and Belinda who are the six content creators selected to take part in DEDALUS, a new social game which promises to redefine the world of Web 3.0 and make the winner rich and famous. Cooped up in an isolated arena, what first appeared to be a straightforward game slowly turns into something totally different, with the creator-competitors subsequently realising they’re either executioners or victims in an elaborate vendetta.

Filming on Dedalus will continue for 5 weeks, unfolding in Rome and the surrounding area, in locations such as Castello Brancaccio and the underground tunnels of Parco della Caffarella.

Camaleo, meanwhile (whose most recent productions include the drama thriller Double Soul, set in Europe and the Arab world and starring Murray Abraham and Danny Glover), are also currently overseeing post-production on the comedy 30 anni (di meno), starring Massimo Ghini and Nino Frassica.
