Shellac bets on The Tale of King Crab
Dario Levy in The Tale of King Crab

Headed by Thomas Ordonneau, French company Shellac works in production, distribution and international sales around an audacious and artistically demanding editorial line. In the complex climate of the health crisis, the company didn’t slow down its activities, on the contrary. After launching VOD subscription formulas on its website to counter the closure of French cinemas since last December, the company is also focused on its future, which is dominated by production. Involved in many projects in the making, the company is making extra efforts and investments in this domain.

(winner of the Grand Prix at Doclisboa in 2015).

Currently in post-production, the film (which went through the 2019 Venice Gap-Financing Market) includes Gabriele Silli, Alexandra LunguSeverino SperandioMariano Arce and Dario Levy in its cast. Written by the two directors, the script is rooted in the popular tales of Italy: at the end of the 19th century, Luciano, a rebellious drunkard and the son of the doctor in a small village of central Italy, accidentally kills his fiancée in a fight with the chief of the village. He finds himself forced into exile on an island of the Tierra del Fuego province, in the extreme south of Argentina. The search for a hidden treasure on the island becomes a chance  for him to make up for his mistakes.

The Tale of King Crab is produced by Tommaso Bertani (2017 Producer on the Move of the European Film Promotion) for Roman company Ring Film, with French company Shellac Sud (which will handle French distribution as well as international sales), and Argentine companies Wanka Cine and Volpe Films, with the support of the Italian Cultural Minister DGCA-MIC and the CNC (co-development support and support for the co-production of Franco-Italian cinematic and audiovisual works).

For the record, among the other upcoming titles handled by the company which are worth mentioning is En nous, from excellent French documentary filmmaker Régis Sauder. Also in the line-up are Our Eternal Summer [+see also:
