The Fire!! Lab creative lab is due to present six projects (one documentary and five works of fiction) between 13 and 15 June, as an integral part of the 27th Fire!! Barcelona LGBTI Film Festival with the ultimate aim of fostering their development, production and marketability. The six upcoming features, which hail from Catalonia, the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Castilla la Mancha and Andalusia, have been selected from among 40 hopefuls that were submitted for the initiative, and reflect the wide spectrum of diversity not just in their characters (which are gay, lesbian, trans, bisexual and queer), but also in terms of their cinematic genres. Indeed, they encompass drama, coming of age, and even a biopic (about the life of trans activist Mar Cambrollé).

). The pitching of the projects will take place on Wednesday 15 June at 6pm, in the ZumZeig cinema in Barcelona.

The selected projects are as follows: the documentary-cum-film essay Imágenes a la deriva by Nicolás Tabilo, the fiction film El Canal de La Mancha by Daniel Sánchez López, the lesbian-themed story Golondrinas by Sara Bamba, the hybrid movie Las Niñas de Canchas by Raúl Villalba Palacin, Oh Cariño! by Claudia Ortega and the transexual-themed feature Una mujer de verdad by Aurora D’Errico Prat.

“We’re very happy with this second edition of the Fire!! Lab and the warm welcome it has received within the Spanish audiovisual industry, both by the emerging talents who have sent in their projects, and by the sponsors and partners who have come on board,” remarked José Gil, coordinator of the Mostra Fire!! industry section.

Among the prizes that the selected projects will be duking it out for are: the DAMA Award, which consists of script consultancy; the Filmmarket Hub Award, which means that, after the lab wraps, all of the projects will be available on the online marketplace, and one of them will receive a script analysis conducted by the online market as a prize; the La Casa del Cine Award, through which the titular school will make its equipment available for the shooting of a teaser for one of the Catalan projects; and the Mr Miyagi Award, which will be handed out for the first time this year and which entails executive-production advice dispensed by the company’s producers.

Fire!! Lab is organised by Casal Lambda and Mostra Fire!!, and it boasts backing from the Barcelona LGBTI Centre, the Institut français, Catalan Films, DAMA, Filmin, Mr Miyagi Films and Moritz.
