The Montreal New Cinema Festival (FNC) has unveiled the selected projects for the 2nd edition of its international co-production market, launched on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the festival last year. The new edition is set to unspool from 6-9 October, in parallel with the regular activities of the FNC and the FNC Forum.

In detail, the market will host the producing and directing teams of 15 projects in development, who will travel to Montreal from countries such as Brazil, France, Ukraine, Senegal and the United States. This year’s selection will also include seven debut films and four movies directed by women. Over 100 Canadian, American and European professionals are expected to attend meetings with project developers as well as networking events to develop new creative partners.

The initiative is organised in partnership with CineMart, International Film Festival Rotterdam’s co-production market, where one of the selected projects will be invited for its 2023 edition.

The curation of the projects was carried out by Hayet Benkara, head of the market, and Karim Aitouna, of Haut Les Mains Productions. The jury in charge of awarding the $25,000 prize for development support is made up of Quebec director Ayana O’Shun; Scott Macaulay, producer and editor-in-chief of Filmmaker Magazine; and New York-based producer and investor Shrihari Sathe

The 51st edition of the Montreal New Cinema Festival will run from 5-16 October.
